Hey Curtis! The 1of1 earplugs are excellent. I use them for festivals because the fit is perfect. The filters are all equally good between brands in my opinion. I honestly use both of my custom Westone and 1of1 earplugs for different uses. I do like that the Westone have a “pull tab” to help take out the earplug — this can be especially useful if you are taking the earplugs in and out often. The filters are easier to swap on the Westones, but that only matters if you want to change the noise reduction level.

One point I will mention is that 1of1 is a MusiCares partner and for that I will always support them. They don’t have to provide this community service, but they do and I love them for that. Ultimately, you can’t go wrong with either company. The fit for either should be equally good, that’s more a function of the audiologist and the impressions.

I’m currently looking to get my first pair of custom earplugs and having a hard time choosing which company to go with. How would you compare the 1of1 Custom earplugs to your JH / Westone earplugs? Do you find that you prefer any of them for their sound quality / attenuation / comfort? If you could only have one, is there a clear cut answer for which you would go with?

Thanks!

Hey Christina, the 27dB reducing filters are great. They are very strong and block a lot of sound. Like you, I have some milt tinnitus even though I’ve worn earplugs. Universal earplugs like the Etymotic Research ER-20s are good but I do prefer higher levels of sound reduction. This is one other benefit of custom earplugs, being able to choose the level.

I think that if you do have tinnitus and you want the most protection possible, the -27dB filters are great.
