I feel that some fundamental advantages of DSLRs have not been mentioned:

01. Optical view finder. Many photographers prefer this option over EVF
02. Ergonomics: Holding a pro or semi-pro DSLR in hand is a joy
03. Hugely superior battery life. This is an area MILCs can never beat DSLRs
04. There’s one feature that’s essential for some professionals that every MILC lacks: flash AF illumination.

As a hobbyist; I shoot mostly landscape, street photos and wildlife. Use Canon pro and semipro bodies and top of the line L lenses. I never felt even for a moment that my images are inferior to MILC outputs.

That said, MILC is the current fad. Pros might need this as some clients might want to know whether the photographer is going with the trend! For hobbyists like me; there is hardly any logical reason to sustain a massive financial damage switching to a system that is not indispensable.

This was a major decision for me too a few years back when I switched to mirrorless. I had been using my mirrorless Olympus camera for years for some lighter lifestyle stuff and personal use, but for some reason was hesitant to go all in.

Eventually I decided to take both with me to a festival weekend, I had the DSLR on one hand and the mirrorless on the other. In the end none of the pictures with the DSLR compared, and the mirrorless was so much lighter too which is obviously a huge plus when you need to carry the whole gear with you.

After that I switched all my gear to the mirrorless Olympus and it gave me so much new inspiration that in a way it DID make me a better photographer at the time, just because I was so excited about photography again. Like, it gave me new drive in a way.
